New Year

It's a new year and with that new year comes a lot of new things. In honor of the new year, I am adding a new package to my pricing. It's a budget friendly package for ladies who would love to do a boudoir session, but a full session is just not in their budget. This package will be available for a limited time and may end at any time.  It's such a sweet deal. For more information, hop over to my pricing page and check it out.

Maternity Boudoir Special

I am thinking of adding something different to my brand. I would like to start offering maternity boudoir sessions. Not necessarily in the way I usually do my boudoir shoots, but a little more classic. I am thinking a long or short lace gown or a lace baby doll for the outfits along with hair & makeup. The sessions will be in my studio just like my regular boudoir sessions are. I am going to put together a special package just for these sessions. The package deal will only run for a limited time & I will only have a few spots available. The package will  include  a one hour shoot with hair, makeup, a beautiful maternity gown to wear  & 3 digital images in a app for  $350.

How To Fuel Your Body: By Amanda Hughes:

This week's guest blog post is about fitness. My guest blogger is a nurse & a fitness instructor. She has provided some great information on exercising & eating healthy.

Over the last several years, I have learned that both working out
and fueling your body properly are both equally important, so I teach people how to apply both to find the results they are seeking. I believe in providing encouragement, support and accountability, which are key to living an overall healthy and fit lifestyle! The hardest thing people
face when changing habits and beginning a healthy lifestyle is waiting for the results. Whether the goal is fat loss, a gain in muscle, a gain in strength, or just an overall healthier body, they all can be achieved by making daily changes. Small changes equal big results that last. There's no quick fix or fad diet that can give you the long-term results we all desire. Here are some fitness and nutrition tips that can help anyone no matter where they as on this fitness journey:

-  Eat a well-balanced breakfast every morning. It wakes up your metabolism for the day and keeps your body functioning optimally.

-  Eat 4-5 meals daily. For example, breakfast, lunch, dinner and two small snacks. This also keeps your metabolism moving faster. This keeps energy levels higher throughout the day as well.

-  Perform strength training workouts 2-3 times weekly. It is a myth that as a woman you will become "bulky" when lifting weights. The more muscle mass you have, even lean muscle, the more your body will burn calories.

-  Don't focus on tons of cardio but instead limit it to 3-4 times and increments of 35-45 minutes. Shorter high intensity intervals are best.

-  Make attainable goals for each week, month and year. Focus on one at a time and develop the daily habits necessary to achieve them.

-  Practice a lifestyle of eating 90% clean and healthy, allowing yourself some splurges.

-  If you need individual help with either nutrition or fitness goals, seek an expert for the best results
Above all, enjoy the journey, respect and love yourself where you are, and don't compare yourself to other women.

My name is Amanda and I am a 39-year-old wife and mom who has a passion for health and fitness. I have been a nurse for over 10 years and love helping to improve the lives of others. My love for healthy eating and strength training developed into a desire to help others find that same love and passion. This led me to obtain my fitness nutrition and personal training certifications through ISSA. I am a fitness nutritionist and personal trainer at Fusion Fitness of Memphis.

Communicating With Your Stylist: By Emily Cohen McElhaney

I thought it would be fun to do a few guest blog posts where a few very special ladies I know & have worked with on boudoir shoots will take over my blog with a post that pertains to something they specialize in. I am very excited to have these ladies share with you a few tips on what they do best. I am thrilled to introduce to you my first guest blogger, Emily Cohen McElhaney

When Denise came to me and said, "Emily, how about you write a guest blog post..", my head started spinning. There's so much to do with hair, after all. From the services, the maintenance; all the way down to integrity and composition. See, I'm an information-giver. What makes up your 'do encompasses not only what you put on your head, but in your body, and then some. I'm a firm believer that knowledge is power. So, what then, in a single blog post, is the most important tid bit I could offer?

Honestly?

It's that it ALL comes down to who's standing behind you when you sit in a salon chair, and how well the two of you communicate.

Ask a group of stylists how often they hear complaints about a previous hairdresser or service. You'll undoubtedly get a sigh-ful "yes", and head-nods in agreement. Why is it such a common problem, and what can YOU, as a hair-wearer, do about it?

Just short of chair-hopping until you're bald, here's some things to consider:

The difference between a good haircut and a bad hair cut is COMMUNICATION.
and this goes for every other service as well.

Find a stylist who asks questions.
Asking "How much time do you spend styling your hair?" lets us know whether or not that cute pixie is conducive to your shower-before-bed and disinterest-in-products lifestyle.

Or, at the very least isn't annoyed when you ask them.
"Can you show me an inch before you cut?" An eye roll isn't an answer.

Make sure you know your lingo.
Mix up "taper" and "layer" and you might just get what you asked for!

Some typical mix-ups:

The length of "Just a Trim" all depends on your last haircut.
It seems counterproductive to cut hair you want to grow, I know. But split ends will continue to split, and unravel up your head like a billion tiny ropes (Cue the frizz). She isn't just scissor happy and "screwed up your hair", she just didn't COMMUNICATE that the longer you wait, the more length needs to come off.

Just because your hair is all your natural color, doesn't mean it's natural.
Hair color, as well as other chemicals have to grow off, or be cut off. Hair grows, on average, at a rate of a half-inch per month. So, "When did you color your hair last?" isn't meant to make you feel like you're in confession. It just must be taken into consideration when changing things up.

And last little side note:
You can't judge a salon by a stylist, or vice versa.
Each of us have individual cutting and coloring styles, and unique personalities.

We spend 1500 hours (literally) learning just the basics, not considering continuing education or our countless hours behind the chair. Get to know your stylist, and let your stylist get to know your hair. Learn to trust them. After that? Stay consistent. You'll be well on your way to hair happiness!

I'm Emily Cohen McElhaney. I've been doing hair for four years, and in the beauty industry almost eight. I found my absolute passion in doing hair, and love to see the tranformations of both someone's outward appearance, but their confidence and self-esteem.
